For Immediate Release
Toronto, Canada – August 29, 2019 – Unobstructed View has acquired the exclusive Canadian distribution rights to the Criterion Collection. Since 1984, the New York based company has provided cinephiles with well-curated editions of meticulously restored classic and contemporary films from Hollywood and beyond. This includes films from Canadian directing legends David Cronenberg and Norman Jewison to a library containing the best of Fellini, Orson Welles, Spike Lee, Agnès Varda, Wes Anderson and much more.
“This is both a milestone for our company and a challenge we are poised to meet,” said Jonathan Gross, President of Unobstructed View. “Criterion is the gold standard for DVD and Blu-ray releases and we plan on making their content more available and more affordable for Canadian cinephiles.”
Gross continued: “We are excited to be involved with the forthcoming Godzilla set as our first big release.”
Jonathan Turell, CEO of the Criterion Collection responded, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Unobstructed View to bring the Criterion Collection to the Canadian marketplace. The team at Unobstructed View understand the value of our special edition DVD and Blu-ray releases, and we’re looking forward to working closely with them to enable our Canadian fans, who have always been strong supporters of our brand, to build their collections and enjoy our films for many years to come.”
The much anticipated Blu-ray release of Godzilla: The Showa – Era Films, 1954-1975 features fifteen Kaiju classics starring the king of the monsters, together for the first time in an exclusive 8-disc collector’s set with extensive supplements and a lavishly illustrated hardcover book, available October 29, 2019. The suggested retail price of the set for Canadians will be $289.98 and it should be a huge seller.
Unobstructed View and Criterion plan on working together to provide aggressive pricing promotions in Canada to enable Canadian customers to participate in many of the same opportunities that have long been available to US customers.
